Pro-biodiversity value chains

LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT WITH A POSITIVE IMPACT ON BIODIVERSITY AROUND PROTECTED AREAS.

CONTEXT OF OUR INTERVENTION AND AMBITIONS

Supporting the development of natural product chains in developing countries represents a twofold opportunity: to preserve biodiversity by setting up non-destructive activities; and to promote economic development for local populations.

Noé supports the creation of sustainable supply chains that respect biodiversity, with local organisations and women's communities, around products such as shea butter, cocoa, coconut oil, honey, moabi butter, njansang oil, etc. These supply chains generate sustainable income for the local people, who are involved in the entire process, from collection to marketing, including the production and processing of the products.

Our mission around pro-biodiversity value chains takes place within and on the outskirts of all protected areas worldwide, restored or managed by Noé or its partners, where the development of resources into processed products (with low ecological impact and high added value) represents an income-generating opportunity for local populations and a commitment to conserving the biodiversity of their territories.

OUR AMBITIONS REGARDING THE CREATION OF PRO-BIODIVERSITY SECTORS ARE TO :

  • Guarantee the preservation of exploited resources, through the conservation, regeneration and restoration of tree species.
  • Maximise the creation of added value at local level, by processing products, organising stakeholders and structuring short supply chains.
  • Encourage the development of agro-ecological and forest conservation practices, both within and on the outskirts of collection areas, in order to improve food security on the one hand and restore biodiversity on the other.
  • Establish inclusive and sustainable models of governance to encourage the preservation of natural resources in the areas farmed (in conjunction with the Protecting Spaces and Endangered Species missions).
  • Encourage companies that are committed to supply chains that integrate biodiversity, natural products derived from collection and the fair distribution of added value to communities.
  • To co-construct projects with local NGOs in order to identify and propose relevant actions in complex socio-cultural contexts and to guarantee the participation of beneficiaries in the approaches developed as well as the sustainability of their support.
