THE GOAL: CONVERGENCE OF SOCIO-ECONOMIC AND ECOLOGICAL INTERESTS

EU SUPPORT FOR CONKOUATI-DOULI PARK

The European Union (EU) will finance the Conkouati-Douli National Park in Congo to the tune of 810,000 euros. As a prelude to the launch of the project entitled "Converging socio-economic interests and ecological issues in the management of the Conkouati-Douli National Park", a ceremony to sign the grant contract was organised on Tuesday 27 September at the premises of the European Union Delegation. Implemented by our NGO Noé, this project aims to ensure sustainable management of the flora and fauna of the Conkouati-Douli National Park in Congo, while improving the living conditions of the communities in and around the park.

In the framework of the cooperation between the Republic of Congo and the European Union, the NGO Noé will work for the implementation of this project together with the Ministry of Forest Economy, its partners and other stakeholders. The EU grant will enable Noé and its partners to implement activities in and around the park with a particular focus on community development, sustainable fisheries and participatory processes in park management.

CONKOUATI-DOULI NATIONAL PARK

This Park is a 5,050 km2 area of rich and diverse ecosystems and an eco-development zone of about 7,000 people spread over 30 villages.
Our NGO Noé has the mandate for the integrated management of this park since April 2021 (delegation of management by the Ministry of Forest Economy) and will carry out the project with the general objective of improving the conservation of ecosystems and endangered species in the park, by converging economic interests and ecological issues in this management.

Noé demonstrates through this project the interest of promoting environmental and community development issues, as well as economic diversification for this partnership.

The support of the European Union underlines the fact that this park is not only crucial for securing the ecosystem services on which local people depend, but also of international importance for securing the future of the entire human species.

Thanks also to African Parks for its support.
